Every year the US needs to dispose of around six million tons of medical waste. That toxic mountain, which includes used dressings and syringes, is likely to get even bigger because of medical advances and expanding health care coverage.
Barbara Noverini, Equity Analyst at Morningstar, looks at Stericycle, one of the largest medical waste companies in the world. It's a firm that’s been dealing with the huge problem of handling hazardous hospital waste since 1989. She points out reasons why Stericycle could be a good name to keep on an investment radar. These include developing efficient scale. Despite the company’s domestic market penetration, Noverini believes that Stericycle can successfully reproduce its business model internationally.
