Listen, see, touch: Gadgets taking market by storm
Bang & Olufsen, Ted Baker and Makerbot were just some of the tech companies showcasing their latest gadgets at the Little Red Rooster event in London. Most products on show are yet to be launched on the market this year but Saxo TV got invited for a sneak peak of what the next big thing could be.
Also at the event was tech expert Stuart Miles, who thinks premium headphones are becoming a must-have. He believes Apple's USD 3 billion acquisition of Beats probably started this trend - and made other companies aware that there's a huge appetite for high-end headphones.
Another exciting announcement for tech fans and investors is that Google Glass will soon be available in the UK. Up until now, it's has only been possible to buy Google Glass in the US. Stuart says that at GBP 1000, they are still very expensive, especially given that the specs are still at the "experimental" stage. But he feels this shows it's gaining momentum.
Google Glass is a lightweight frame similar to a pair of glasses without the lenses. A tiny screen sits attached in front of your right eye, with which you can check your Gmail messages or search the Web. Everything is controlled by tapping on the side of the specs, tilting your head, or announcing "OK Google".
And finally, if you thought some instant messaging apps were just a bit of a joke - think again. One new app called "Yo" managed to raise USD 1.2 million of seed funding, and its developers are now planning to make it into the next big app. "Yo" already has 1 million users and the concept is simple - you can only (note only) send a "yo" to your other "yo" friends. Nothing more, nothing less. Stuart thinks that whilst this may seem funny, these apps won't go away anytime soon.
