Black Friday – what’s your bet?

It's 'Black Friday' and which retailers are set to gain from the shopping extravaganza and which could loose out? Last year, sales declined for the first time since 2009 and there's concern that big discounts are going to hurt some companies' bottom lines.
Thanksgiving weekend is one of the biggest US shopping holidays, which starts on the Friday after the holiday. It has been named Black Friday as it is the event that retailers hope will turn their year-end numbers black.

Saxo Bank’s Head of Equity Strategy Peter Garnry says the event offers investors a range of choices – you can either bet on whether it will be a good or bad season for the retailers or consider options as an investment. Whatever the choice, it makes sense to consider last year’s numbers as well as the data available so far from other shopping holidays in 2014, says Peter.
