Why the US jobs number could surprise

The non-farm payrolls are out later on Friday. Market consensus for the November US job report is 230,000, but Morningstar’s Bob Johnson expects more.

Late holiday hiring and an increase in restaurant sales should produce a better-than-expected jobs number, says Bob, who is director of economic analysis at Morningstar. He expects the number could go as high as 255,000.

Bob says he will be watching out for any revisions to previous numbers, highlighting the fact the total wage data was revised significantly downward for the second quarter.
