Apple’s emerging plan to boost profits

Apple may have seen record sales in iPhones, but its Q3 net profit was down almost 22%. The company also saw sales of iPads and Macs drop.

To combat this Apple is tapping into emerging markets.  It will produce a cheaper phone, more accessible to consumers in those countries.

It's a strategy that has worked for rival Samsung - which is growing off the back of the popularity of its Galaxy S4 handset.

Saxo Bank's Peter Garnry says this will help drive Apple’s share price.

In 2012, Apple was the world's most valuable listed compan.  Its share price peaked above $700 last September, but  has since dropped significantly;  trading below $419 at the beginning of the week.
