Denmark is the best country in the world, along with New Zealand, in which to do business. That's according to Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index. The USA's position may surprise you. The organisation says money laundering and corrupt political financing urgently needs cracking down on as two thirds of the 177 countries surveyed scored below fifty percent, indicating significant failings.
Critics say that measuring levels of corruption is almost impossible. However, Transparency International says it drew on more than a dozen surveys to rate corruption perceptions around the globe. It says low scoring countries are generally notable for a lack of transparency and accountability and high levels of reoprted bribery. Afghanistan, North Korea and Somalia make up the worst performers. Those topping the table are mainly from northern Europe.
