BERGER: My 2013 trading highs and lows
Serge Berger, known as the Steady Trader, looks back on the 2013 trading year and reveals his best and worst trades.
The 2013 trading year provided escalating bouts of growth for investors that were willing to ride the market’s wave. Berger commends the risk he took staying long on stocks, particularly consumer discretionary stocks, in the Autumn. It is typical for investors to back out of the market then as seasonal trends take effect, but this year proved to be different as banks signaled that they would continue to be accommodating.
Berger did not start off the 2013 year on a high, as he underestimated the highs that stocks would reach in the beginning of the year. He notes that there were clear signs of strong economic performance to come as early as December 2012, but he failed to take advantage of the momentum. Berger’s un-bullish position turned out to be more of a missed opportunity.
