Oqvist: My best trade and my worst exit!
Trading Floor’s contributors take a moment to reflect on the highs and lows of trading as we come to the end of the year.
Fredrik Oqvist, Founder of ChinaRAI, is reminded of the benefits of investing early when it comes to the Guggenheim China Tech ETF, which is now up 63 percent this year. It was an understated player in 2012 until tech companies began releasing their staggering results, making the ETF a valuable holding today. Instead of investing early and reaping the long-term benefits, Oqvist’s worst trade involves an investment he regrets leaving too early.
A poor exit regarding Tencent, China’s largest internet service portal, left Oqvist stirring over the trade. He exited the trade prematurely at 3.2 before the price rallied to 4.27, creating a wide gap of missed potential.
