Why China is the emerging threat

A growing crisis in emerging markets is hitting share prices and could lead to a significant correction in global equity markets. That’s according to Saxo Bank Chief Investment Officer Steen Jakobsen. With China and Asia driving any global recovery, deep concerns about the Chinese economy are sending shivers through January trading.

China is responsible for more than a third of global growth but a disappointing PMI report, slowing GDP and deepening concerns about a largely hidden debt bubble have led to slides on Asian markets.

European firms are facing lower export volumes and margins and Steen says the outlook remains pessimistic.
