5 things you didn't know about the new Microsoft boss
Satya Nadella is Microsoft’s third CEO in the 38 year history of the pioneering computing company. His appointment has been widely welcomed but there would have been many people whose initial reaction would have been: “Who?”.
So here are five things you may not have known about Satya Nadella:
1. The 46 year old was born in India
2. He went to Hyderabad Public School, where many hugely successful Indian business leaders also studied.
3. After college in the US, where he gained two degrees, he started work at Microsoft 22 years ago
4. After the cloud computing expert was appointed, he paraphrased an Oscar Wilde quote in a letter to staff, saying “we need to believe in the impossible and remove the improbable”.
5. Two of his three children have special needs and he’s talked about the importance of balancing work with family life.
Microsoft’s share price lifted in response to Nadella’s promotion, with many analysts seeing him a more visionary replacement for outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer, a man who famously laughed at the iphone.
So, high hopes and expectations that Satya Nadella can turn vision into increased profits.
