What the margin debt doomsayers forgot to tell you
US margin debt has hit record levels which has prompted many to predict a market turnaround. But Saxo Bank's Head of Equity Strategy, Peter Garnry, says that's not necessarily the case. He says such warnings don't take much account of hedge fund involvement. He says they're the main users of leverage today and are nimble enough to change their positions swiftly.
Peter explains that taking on debt can of course amplify your returns but also your losses. However, he's still confident that the equity bull run is set to continue for at least another year.
