Why so many investors are going with the flow
US investment research firm Morningstar's fund flow data gives an estimate of the number of dollars that flow in and out of mutual funds over a given time. Fund flow data can be helpful to understand investor sentiment and trends. Shannon Zimmerman, Associate Director of Fund Analysis at Morningstar, points out that investors are still investing heavily in equity funds even five years into a spectacular bull market. Shannon Zimmerman says, “It’s not always a contrarian indicator when investors stampede into risk assets, like they are into equity funds right now, but five years into a rally they don’t call it performance chasing for nothing.”
