Car sales speed up in the UK

New car registrations in the UK jumped to their highest level in a decade this March. Keith Lewis, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Head of Communications says Brits' favourites are the Ford Fiesta, the Vauxhall Corsa and the Nissan Qashqai.

Keith explains consumers “like the versatility these bigger cars can offer”. What’s more, he thinks the number of car sales will continue to grow.

New car registrations rose 17.7 percent compared with a year earlier to 464,824 units - the most in a single month since March 2004. The SMMT says strong demand is supported by a wide range of financing deals plus record low interest rates.

Keith also adds that one of the great strengths of the UK is the heritage of premium models, such as Rolls Royce, Bentley and Jaguar, which project a quality image.
