As Lenovo, the world's biggest personal computer maker has reported a 29 percent rise in full-year earnings, tech expert and founder of pocketlint.com, Stuart Miles, says this really is a company investors should watch out for.
Lenovo earned a record USD 817m in net profit for the 12 months to March. The company sold 55 million PCs during the year, extending its global market share to 17.7 percent. What's more, Lenovo sold 50 million smartphones and 9.2 million tablets.
Miles says that looking at the firm's current growth, it "has a real chance to dominate the mobile phone market".
Microsoft has unveiled a larger but lighter version of its Surface Pro tablet in a bid to take on rival Apple.
At a presentation in New York, Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella made it clear that Microsoft is committed fully to making its own devices. Stuart explains Microsoft "assumes we will all be using tablets instead of laptops in the future" and as a result he thinks it will be interesting to see if this 12 inch version will be successful for the company.
And Netflix will launch its online movie and TV subscription service in six more European countries including France and Germany this year. The other new countries it will enter in late 2014 are Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg, the California-based company. Stuart reckons this expansion "can only be a good thing for Netflix and the consumer".
