Can the Dax hold its gains after Putin's comments on Ukraine?

The Dax is unlikely to hold on to all's its intraday gains following comments by the Russian President over Ukraine. Vladimir Putin said Russia would do "everything in our power" to see an early end to the conflict. The Dax jumped by nearly one percent this Thursday lunchtime.

Saxo Bank's Head of Equity Strategy, Peter Garnry, is not convinced that his comments were enough to move the index quite so markedly. "It's rhetoric", he says, given that the President gave few details. Peter says the 9,240 level could be critical on the downside given the gap up from 9,229 to 9,245 just before the spike up to the intraday peak.
