Yahoo, Apple, Google – the battle of the Tech giants
191 views
Yahoo has seen its profits surge to USD 6.8 billion in the three months to September. The company has its stake in Alibaba to thank for most of that. But growth in mobile is also helping says Tech Expert Stuart Miles. Yahoo says revenue from its mobile products was more than USD 200 million for the quarter. It estimates that mobile revenues could be more than USD 1.2 billion by the end of 2014.
And from one tech giant to another because this week Apple also reported a rise in its Q4 earnings – a 13% increase. The iPhone 6 may have been responsible for the boost. But as Stuart points out, the new Ipad Air 2 hasn’t performed as well as expected. He says it’s because consumers don’t upgrade their ipads like they do their smart phones. He says watch the company focus on business users as it tries to boost sales.
In the bid for market share, Google too has announced the release of new devices, the Nexus 6 smartphone and the Nexus 9 tablet. It’s also updated its operating system to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Stuart points out that the Nexus 9 is made by struggling HTC which desperately needs this product to sell well in order to lift the company’s profits.
