Collins: My Best & Worst Trade of 2014
362 views
With the 2014 trading year coming to an end, we at TradingFloor.com are taking a moment to reflect on the highs and lows from the past year.
Alan Collins from 3c Analysis says that his best trade decision this year was to short EURGBP. He has maintained a bearish outlook on the currency pair throughout the year, selling into rallies. Moving into 2014 EURGBP had already begun coming off previous highs and indicators such as RSI and the Keltner channel forecasted this negative outlook. Prices have fallen 6.5 percent during the year. The bearish momentum may be coming to an end as positive signals are anticipated but have not yet arrived according to Alan.
Alan’s worst trade of the year involved trying to call a top in Bund futures. Yields have fallen 1.25 percent this year and Bund futures have jumped almost 20 points. Alan explains that at the end of Q3 there were signs of divergence in strength indicators and so he believed the market would initially see higher prices followed by heavy profit taking. This has yet to happen, but Alan still believes there is hope for the trade as we enter 2015.
